Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship Standard

Typical duration to gateway: 24 months

Delivery: Weekly day release and off-the-job training

Autocare Technicians: Diagnosing, Repairing and Maintaining Vehicles to Ensure Safety and Efficiency

An Autocare Technician contributes to their organisation’s commercial operations, impact on the business, and maintain a high standard of services. The purpose of the occupation requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills.

They carry out inspections of cars, car derived vans and light goods vehicles including electric or hydrogen powered vehicles for basic routine maintenance. They also carry out a range of services and repairs, whilst inspecting, removing and replacing components on various vehicle systems.

Course Content:

  • Communicating with customers establishing vehicle problems and their requirements
  • Conducting vehicle inspections and routine maintenance work
  • Inspecting, repairing, and replacing car, car derived van, or light goods vehicle tyres and vehicle systems components
  • Identifying and sourcing vehicle components in line with workplace procedures
  • Post inspection, providing customer quotation of the work required, before agreeing and commencing the work

Entry Requirements:

  • GCSE grade 1-3 or Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths

If you do not possess these grades, you will need to achieve this level and also take the test for Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths prior to taking the End Point Assessment.

Progression Opportunities:

  • Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Senior Technician: With more experience and proven competency, progress to a senior technician role where you can mentor junior technicians and handle more complex repair jobs.
  • Workshop Manager: Oversee the day-to-day operations of a workshop, managing technicians, scheduling repairs, and ensuring quality standards are met.
  • MOT Tester: Obtain an MOT testing license to conduct mandatory vehicle safety inspections.
