The course offers a solid foundation in the major scientific areas to enable you to progress to university. You will need to be highly motivated and committed.
Units you may study include:
- Cells
- Human Physiology
- Biochemistry
- Inheritance and Evolution
- Higher Education Study Skills
There are also additional units to study depending on which pathway you follow, either the science or health pathway.
You could go on to study a range of biology and chemistry related degree programmes at university.
Students will follow the CAVA Access to Science framework.
Requirements
Applicants should preferably have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above but may be able to take one (not both) of these alongside the Access course depending on their current grade. You will also need to attend an interview where we will discuss your experience, ambitions and other relevant factors in order to ensure that the course is suitable for you.
Assessment
Assessment includes coursework assignments (structured questions, reports, essays, poster, presentation etc) and exams.
Progression
Employment opportunities can include research scientist, laboratory technician, teacher, nurse, ODP, paramedic, radiographer, Environment Agency work, biomedical scientist, to name but a few.
