The Certificate in Education and Professional Graduate Certificate in Education are professional qualifications for those teaching in a post-16 environment, and are available to graduates and to non-graduates with appropriate vocational qualifications and is studied in-service (2 years part-time).

The course aims to develop a range of skills and knowledge required of a professional teacher, placing a significant emphasis on you developing your ability to meet the needs of your learners. The fundamental principles of practice are underpinned by reference to theoretical perspectives, thus encouraging you to effectively link theory to your practice.

You are assessed through a mixture of essays, reports, assignments, practical tasks and assessment of your teaching skills.  You will be observed teaching in your setting and formally assessed a number of times throughout the programme.

Modules you may study include:

  • Introduction to Teaching
