The Level 1 Award in Counselling Skills is a 15-week course which will introduce you to the basic skills required to become a counsellor and how to use counselling skills to help others.
Whether you are interested in counselling adults or children, this course offers a good starting point to increase your knowledge and skills in the subject.
You will study two units and produce a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating your counselling skills. This can be used to assist your progression onto future study in courses such as Access to Counselling at East Coast College or other providers.

Requirements
This course is available to students aged 19+ who hold at least 2 GCSEs at grade 2/E or above. These entry requirements are set as a guide and we encourage students who may be interested in studying counselling to submit an application and attend a discussion with the course leader.
Assessment
A portfolio of evidence will be completed during the course which may contain short written assignments, presentations, group listening activities and discussions.
Progression
After completing the course, you may be able to progress onto Access to Counselling at Level 3. In order to progress to this course, you will require at least one GCSE at grade 4/C or above.
