Course: FdSc Sport, Health and Exercise

Study Level

Level 5

Location

Great Yarmouth Campus

The Place University Centre

Duration

Two Years

FT / PT

Full-time

The course has been set up in response to skills shortages in the sport, health, lifestyle and fitness industries. It has been designed after lengthy talks with employers, including health organisations and gyms, about the needs of the industry and the health needs of the population.

You will develop core subject-specific knowledge and abilities, and a range of transferrable skills that employers look for; such as producing a range of documents, analyse and synthesise information, work effectively within a team, manage your own learning and workload, solve problems and critically reflect on your own and others work. Graduates have gone on to work as exercise referral specialists, personal trainers, sports therapists, sports coaches and teacher training. (Some of these careers required additional study)

Whist this is a full-time course, typically this course generally only requires 1-2 days on campus attendance, supported by self-directed study.  This means you can continue to work alongside your studies and balance other commitments.

Modules you may study include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise
  • Social and Psychological Perspectives
  • Exercise Prescription and Testing
  • Sports Massage and Injury
  • Work Experience as a Resource of Learning
  • Advanced Training Techniques
  • Nutrition and Weight Management
  • Public Health Promotion
