EEEGR Skills for Energy 2018

29/11/2018

On Wednesday 28th November we were delighted to host the EEEGR Skills for Energy 2018 event in our Kier Building and Offshore Wind Skills Centre.

We were welcomed by over 20 companies that showcased their businesses to secondary and college students. The event was designed to feed the increasing appetite among young people to explore the full range of training and career opportunities in the energy industry and how to access them. It provided a unique opportunity to talk directly to and inspire potential employees and showcase companies’ investment in young people and the future.

The employer’s stands were very interactive and informative. All students left with good knowledge on how they can gain employment and what skills they need to get into the energy sector.

Gemma Head, the Skills for Energy Programme Manager, said “It was a really successful event and we appreciate the support of the college. A large number of school students attended the event, especially those from out of the area.”

Emily, a stakeholder advisor, from Orsted said “A lot of the students were very enthusiastic and engaged with the interactive elements and discovering the different routes into the sector. Students have been stimulated and it was great to see a mixture of different people from different areas. Students learnt about the key skills to get into the energy sector.”

The Apprenticeship Coordinator from EDF said, “It’s good to see so many engaged and interested students.”
